Renderer / Renderer2 

If you understand why we have platform (server-platform, browser-platform) then you will understand why we have renderer.

Renderer2 has been created and intended to replace render from @angular/core. The purpose of renderer is to provided platform independence when it comes to rendering. We might have browser/mobile or server side rendering, each gives us benefit but also introduce additional complexities.
